What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures that restore the shape and appearance of the body after having a child. This procedure will target areas that are most affected by pregnancy, such as the breasts and abdomen, but can also include other areas of concern. This single stage procedure can include a combination of the following procedures:

– Breast Augmentation
– Breast Lift
– Tummy Tuck
– Vaginal Rejuvenation
– Liposuction
– Arm Lift
– Brazilian Butt Lift

A mommy makeover is completely customizable to fit the needs and desires of the patient.

How Long Do I Need To Recovery from a Mommy Makeover?

The time it takes to recover from a mommy makeover will depend on the procedures you have chosen. All patients will have some sort of dressings or an elastic bandage placed on the body immediately following surgery. Some patients will be given compression garments to help reduce swelling. Dr. Buchanan will give further direction on how often the bandages should be changed, and how long to wear the compression garments.

Generally patients who have a significant combined procedure such as a mommy makeover will need at least two weeks off work to rest and recover. Minimal activity during this time is critical to allow your body to heal properly. Very light exercise can be resumed after roughly four weeks, and moderate exercise can be resumed after six.

Over the next several weeks swelling will begin to decrease and soreness and bruising will subside. The shape of your targeted areas will begin to smooth out and start to fall into its permanent place. Remember to continue following Dr. Buchanan’s care instructions and always attend scheduled follow-up appointments.

Risks

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with this surgery. Ultimately, you will have to decide whether the benefits outweigh the potential complications.

Potential complications of a mommy makeover include, but are not limited to:

– Poor wound healing
– Hematoma (bruising)
– Seromoa (blood accumulation beneath the skin)
– Hypertrophic or keloid scarring
– Nerve damage and numbness
– Capsular contracture
– Blood clotting
– Fat necrosis
– Loss of nipple sensation

Dr. Buchanan is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding these risks and any others not listed. We believe that it is very important for you to feel at ease with this procedure prior to moving forward. The specific risks in your case will depend on exactly which procedures you are having.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?

The cost of mommy makeover surgery varies significantly depending on the complexity of your case, the number of procedures involved, and where you live. It’s also important to note that the amount above does not reflect additional surgery costs, including:

– Anesthesia fees
– Operating room costs
– Blood or additional medical testing
– Compression garments for post-surgery
– Prescriptions
– Miscellaneous expenses, such as surgeon’s fees

Additionally, the cost of the procedure can be affected by the following circumstances:

– The amount of experience and overall reputation of your surgeon. You’ll find that surgeon’s with many years of experience, or that are highly regarded, will typically cost more.
– The techniques the surgeon uses for the procedure and the complexity of the case.
– Where your surgeon’s practice is located. Typically, larger cities have higher operational costs and are more expensive.

If you’ve considered a mommy makeover, but feel like you are limited financially, speak to Dr. Buchanan or one of the VIVIFY staff members about financing options. We do our best to work with each patient by offering financing plans to help her achieve her surgical goals.

Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon

During your search for a potential plastic surgeon, you should only consider a surgeon who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Board-certified surgeons spend a minimum of 6-8 years in training after medical school to ensure that they are well-trained in both aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ideal candidates for a mommy makeover are women who are finished with childbearing and have maintained a stable and healthy weight. Candidates should also be in good overall health and non-smokers.
This procedure typically includes a breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). However, the surgery is completely customizable and can include surgical and non-surgical procedures based on the patient’s desired outcome.
Some patients are able to see changes immediately following their procedure. Generally, we ask that patients allow up to six months to see their final results.
This is a complex procedure that will require plenty of downtime and rest. If you have young children in your care, we recommend having a family member or close friend assist you for at least one week post-operation.
Ideally, if you have this surgery, you should not plan to have any more children. This is suggested in order to preserve your results. However, you can have children after this surgery with the understanding that your results from your mommy makeover may be distorted.
Many women go through dramatic changes during pregnancy and after. It is critical to give your body time to adjust and heal after giving birth. Therefore, we suggest women wait a minimum of six months after giving birth before having this procedure. If you are breast-feeding, it is important to wait about 3-6 months until after you are done breastfeeding before having any breast procedure.
