About Breast Augmentation with a Lift

This procedure utilizes the elevating and contouring techniques of a breast lift and combines those with breast implants, giving your breasts an added volumizing appearance. During a breast lift, the surgeon will lift and reshape your breast tissue by making an incision. The number and size of the incisions depend on several factors, including the severity of the breast sagging.

Procedure

There are typically three types of lift techniques that surgeons utilize for this surgery:

  • The Benelli, donut lift, or peri-areolar technique lifts the breast tissue by making a small circular incision around the outer edge of the areola. This lift is an excellent option for minimal sagging.
  • A vertical or lollipop lift is a good option for women with mild to moderate breast sagging and desire contouring or reshaping of breast tissue. Two incisions are made – one around the outer edge of the areola and another down the center of the breast.
  • The anchor lift, also known as the “inverted T” lift, is ideal for moderate to severe cases of sagging. This technique uses the incisions of the lollipop lift and an additional horizontal incision along the natural breast crease.

Are Breast Implants With a Lift Right for Me?

Changes in breast tissue can be attributed to many of life’s natural occurrences. Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can all contribute to a loss of volume, fullness, and even sagging in the breast. Women who choose this type of surgery seek elevation and fullness that a lift alone cannot achieve.

When choosing which surgery is right for you, it’s important to identify what results you desire from the procedure. If you want perkier, fuller, and more youthful-looking breasts, a breast lift with implants may be a great fit for you.

Before proceeding with this procedure, Dr. Buchanan will first schedule a consultation with you to determine if you actually need a lift and, if so, what type of lift would be best for you. You will discuss implant size, incision type, recovery, and desired outcomes during this consultation. Our goal is to provide you with the results you have always wanted, so take this time to share with Dr. Buchanan what your goals are with this procedure.

How Much Does This Surgery Cost? Prices starting at $14,000

The price of a breast lift with augmentation in Tampa can vary significantly based on the intricacy of your situation. This is a cosmetic procedure, so it is not covered by health insurance. The total cost of the procedure may include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Operating room costs
  • Compression garments for post-surgery
  • Surgeon fees

However, other expenses may not be included in the initial cost, such as:

  • Blood tests
  • Pre-operative testing
  • Medical clearance exams
  • Prescription medications

Several other factors can influence the cost of the procedure, including:

  • The surgeon's experience and reputation
  • The techniques used
  • The complexity of the case

For example, highly experienced or reputable surgeons may charge more, and the case's complexity can affect the procedure's cost. Additionally, the location of the surgeon's practice can also impact the cost of the procedure, as larger cities often have higher operational costs. If you're interested in a breast lift with augmentation but have financial constraints, you can discuss financing options with Dr. Buchanan or any of the VIVIFY staff members. They offer financing plans to assist patients in achieving their surgical objectives.

Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon

Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is vital when considering plastic surgery. Board-certified plastic surgeons undergo extensive training, including at least 6-8 years of rigorous training after medical school, to ensure they have the necessary skills and expertise in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. It's important to note that not all surgeons who perform cosmetic procedures are board-certified plastic surgeons. Opting for a board-certified plastic surgeon in Tampa can ensure you receive the highest level of care and expertise for your procedure.

Do implants cause breast cancer?

Studies have indicated that silicone implants do not cause breast cancer but may interfere with detecting tumors through traditional methods like mammograms, potentially delaying diagnosis. There is also a slightly increased risk of developing a rare type of cancer of the immune system called breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). However, this cancer has only been linked to textured breast implants, which are not commonly used for most augmentations.

Will a breast augmentation prevent me from breastfeeding?

While breast implants do not typically prevent women from breastfeeding, a small percentage of women (approximately 1% to 5%) cannot breastfeed due to other medical reasons. Unfortunately, it is impossible to determine if you fall within this statistic before undergoing breast implant surgery.

How old do I have to be for breast augmentation?

FDA regulations stipulate that women must be at least 18 years of age to receive saline breast implants and at least 22 years old to receive silicone implants.

How much pain will I be in after the surgery?

Following breast augmentation surgery, mild discomfort and pain are common, with the level of pain varying depending on the placement of the implant. Submuscular placement generally results in more pain than subglandular placement. However, pain can be effectively managed with appropriate pain treatment. Within 3-7 days post-op, most patients can discontinue strong pain medications and switch to over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol.

How long do implants last?

While breast implants don't have a specific expiration date, they are not intended to be lifetime devices. Over time, you may need to undergo a revision procedure to replace the implant or adjust the breast size or shape around the implant.

How do I know what size is right for me?

To determine the appropriate implant size for you, it is best to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. The decision will ultimately depend on your anatomy, measurements, and desired outcome. At our practice, we utilize Crisalix, a virtual reality 3D imaging software, to help visualize different implants on a patient's 3D rendering, which can be a valuable tool in making implant selections.

How long will swelling last?

Typically, swelling should subside within six weeks following breast augmentation surgery. However, the final results may take 3-6 months to become fully visible. For further information, please contact our office and schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Buchanan.

When can I start working out again?

To prevent early complications, avoiding strenuous exercise for a minimum of two weeks following breast augmentation surgery is recommended. After this period, you can resume regular exercise, with the exception of any chest-related activity such as pushing, pulling, or heavy lifting, which should be limited for six weeks post-surgery. After six weeks, you can gradually reintroduce your regular exercise routine.

When will my breasts “drop?”

Typically, the breasts will settle into their final position within three to six months after the surgery.

What bras should I wear after surgery?

We recommend wearing elastic, stretchy, or surgical compression bras after surgery. It is important to avoid bras with underwire or excessive padding and structure until six weeks post-surgery. The ideal bra should provide snug compression and good support without being too tight and distorting the breasts.

How much time do I need off from work?

The recommended time off work following breast augmentation surgery can vary from three to seven days, depending on your circumstances and work requirements. If you have any questions regarding your specific work duties, discussing them with Dr. Buchanan is best.

Will my insurance cover this surgery?

Health insurance companies do not cover breast augmentation with lift in Tampa because it is considered a cosmetic enhancement procedure.
