What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, dark spots, large pores, and other skin problems. Uneven skin tone, dry skin, harsh texture, age spots, loose skin, acne, wrinkles, and scarring are skin conditions that may also benefit from microneedling. If you'd like to learn more about the microneedling procedure, schedule a one-on-one consultation with board-certified nurse practitioner Michelle Buchanan at our office in Tampa, FL.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Some skin concerns cannot be helped with topical solutions or over-the-counter creams. Microneedling, a procedure that offers collagen stimulation in Tampa, targets problem areas directly while encouraging the growth of smoother and healthier-looking skin. Additionally, microneedling is safe for most skin types and may be used for a number of unwanted cosmetic concerns. Our professionals at VIVIFY Med Spa understand that each patient is unique and can ensure optimal results based on your skin type and goals.

Who Is a Candidate for Microneedling?

A good candidate for RF microneedling wants to manage signs of aging or sun damage that make their skin look rough and uneven. VIVIFY Medspa will perform a consultation before treatment to discuss your goals and what to expect from the procedure. Inform our team if you have any medical conditions that might interfere with microneedling or are taking any medications that impact the skin. Our goal is to provide the safest and most effective treatments possible.

Microneedling with PRP/PRF or Morpheus8

As an additional benefit, your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP/PRF) may be administered to the same area to help tissue heal and allow the skin to begin growing new cells. VIVIFY Medspa also offers Morpheus8, a microneedling device incorporating radiofrequency energy to trigger collagen and elastin production for a smoother, sleeker appearance. Morpheus8 can be combined with PRP/PRF. A good candidate for Morpheus8 or microneedling with PRP in Tampa is anyone seeking to modify the appearance or texture of the top layer of their face.

What to Expect During Your Microneedling Procedure

For patients undergoing a microneedling session with platelet-rich plasma (PRP/PRF), a member of our medical team will first draw your blood for the PRP/PRF collection. The blood will then be sent to our laboratory for the separation process, during which the stem cells, platelets, and growth factors will be made into PRP/PRF. For the microneedling treatment, VIVIFY medspa uses modern technology to create tiny holes in your skin. The small needles will not damage your skin but help stimulate collagen production. PRP/PRF is used in conjunction with microneedling/RF microneedling to further stimulate collagen and provide growth factors and stem cells to aid in the healing process

What is the Recovery for Microneedling?

After your collagen induction therapy in Tampa, you might experience minor swelling, bruising, and redness. We recommend that patients avoid using makeup, exfoliating face washes, or swimming in chlorinated pools for about 72 hours following the session. Activities like these can expose the treatment area to strong chemicals and bacteria, which may lead to adverse side effects. You should also avoid exposure to the sun or wear sunscreen and a hat when going outdoors. Final results are generally seen within several weeks as the skin works to repair and heal itself.

Microneedling FAQ

Is microneedling painful?

How many microneedling sessions are needed to see results?

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

How does microneedling compare to laser treatments?

Is microneedling painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during microneedling. A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to reduce any pain sensations. The procedure is often described as feeling like a light sandpaper moving across the skin.

How many microneedling sessions are needed to see results?

While some improvements can be seen after a single session, optimal results typically require a series of treatments. The exact number of sessions depends on the individual’s skin condition and desired results, but most patients benefit from 3 to 6 sessions, about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes, to enhance the results, microneedling can be safely combined with other treatments such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, chemical peels, or hydrating facials. Your skincare specialist can recommend the best combination of treatments based on your skin type and desired aesthetic results.

How does microneedling compare to laser treatments?

While microneedling and laser treatments aim to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen production, microneedling is less invasive, has a shorter recovery time, and is generally more affordable. It's also suitable for all skin types, including darker skin tones, which are more at risk of pigmentation changes with lasers.
