What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a form of botulinum toxin, a purified neurotoxin derived from clostridium botulinum bacteria that temporarily relaxes muscle movement and eliminates facial wrinkles.

What is Botox Used For?

In Tampa, BOTOX® is commonly used to treat a variety of areas for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. It is an effective solution for addressing:

  • Forehead Creases – smooths horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Frown Lines (the “11” lines) – reduces vertical lines between the brows
  • Crow’s Feet – softens fine lines around the outer corners of the eyes
  • Bunny Lines – minimizes lines on the nose bridge
  • Lip Lines (Smoker’s Lines) – smooths vertical lines above the upper lip
  • Chin Dimpling – reduces the appearance of a "pebbled" chin
  • Jawline Slimming – softens the jawline for a slimmer appearance
  • Neck Bands (Platysmal Bands) – smooths vertical neck lines for a more youthful look
  • Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) – reduces sweating in areas like the underarms, palms, and feet

BOTOX® also offers therapeutic benefits when applied by skilled professionals, offering safe, effective results with a low risk of side effects.

How Does Botox Work?

Are you bothered by the fine lines, wrinkles, and creases on your forehead or around your eyes? Commonly called dynamic lines, these skin issues appear due to continuous facial expressions, such as squinting, smiling, and frowning. As we age, these wrinkles remain and make us appear less youthful. At VIVIFY Medspa, we use BOTOX® Cosmetic by Allergan, an injectable wrinkle relaxer that temporarily minimizes the appearance of moderate to severe forehead creases, crow's feet, and frown lines. BOTOX® and Jeuveau utilize a clean type A strain of botulinum toxin. The relaxer works to temporarily "freeze" the muscles that cause those contractions, allowing the overlying skin to smooth itself over time. This non-surgical solution helps patients obtain a smoother, renewed appearance. BOTOX® and other neuromodulators can prevent static lines from forming over time.

What can I Expect from Botox Treatment?

BOTOX® in Tampa can take as little as 10-15 minutes and are done in your doctor’s office. The injector will use a very thin needle to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into the muscles that are carefully chosen to provide you with the best results. They also determine the number of injections and the amount of toxin needed based on the extent of your wrinkles and which area of the face you’d like to target.

The results of BOTOX® are usually visible within a few days, but it can take up to 7-14 days to see your final results. This is important to understand when planning treatments around an upcoming event. Results usually last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. However, to prevent the lines from coming back completely, most patients tend to re-treat on a recurring schedule every 3-4 months.

What is the Recovery for Botox?

One of the advantages of BOTOX® injections in Tampa is that downtime is often non-existent. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately following the treatment, and side effects are often so minimal they won’t interfere with everyday life. To ensure the best results and prevent any negative side effects, it is best to avoid rubbing or massaging the point of injection to prevent the botulinum toxin from migrating to other areas of the face. Also, avoid being in the sun too long, as excessive sun exposure may cause irritation. Exercise may be resumed 24 hours after the injections.

Available Neurotoxins

BOTOX® in Tampa is not the only neurotoxin on the market. There are several different varieties of neurotoxins that differ slightly in their makeup and effects. You can always talk to your injector about which product is best for you. The current products on the market include:

  • BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA)

Is BOTOX® painful?

Most patients report that BOTOX® injections are not painful. It feels like getting a slight pinch.

Is it safe?

Yes, BOTOX® is FDA-approved and considered safe when used for its approved treatment methods and administered by a professional.

How do I know what amount is right for me?

Injectables are measured by units, volumes, and concentrations. If you are working with a professional, they will decide how many units are necessary to give you the results you desire. This should be discussed prior to the treatment during your consultation.

How long do the results last?

The effects from BOTOX® can last anywhere from three to six months. As movement in the muscle gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear; however, they are often less severe over time with treatment because the muscles are shrinking. Because of this, most patients try to keep a schedule of treatment every 3-4 months.

Does insurance cover BOTOX®?

In most cases, health insurance companies do not cover BOTOX® because it is considered a cosmetic enhancement procedure.

What is the biggest risk of BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is considered very safe when administered by trained professionals, but potential risks include mild bruising, swelling, or temporary drooping of nearby muscles. At VIVIFY, our skilled providers follow stringent protocols to minimize these risks, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience.

At what age should you start BOTOX®?

There is no set age for starting BOTOX®, as it depends on your unique skin concerns and goals. Many people in their late 20s or early 30s begin using BOTOX® as a preventative measure to reduce the early signs of aging, while others wait until they start noticing wrinkles. Our VIVIFY team can help determine the best time to start BOTOX® based on your personal needs.

What happens if you stop BOTOX®?

If you choose to stop BOTOX® treatments, your muscles will gradually regain movement, and wrinkles may return over time. However, they will not worsen or age faster; your skin simply returns to its natural aging process.
